Thunder Ridge Motorsport Park has unveiled an updated track design, reflecting valuable feedback from the local motorsport community, drivers, and supporters.

The revised 3.3-kilometre anti-clockwise layout will challenge drivers with its flow, elevation changes and variety of corners. With its forest location in the Tect Park facility, it will also be one of the world’s more scenic track facilities.

“We haven’t stopped our efforts to create a circuit that serves grassroots motorsport in New Zealand,” explained Thunder Ridge co-founder Tony Roberts.

“Since we revealed our plans, we’ve fielded literally hundreds of enquiries and sought feedback from as many people as possible. As a result we’ve refined the back straight of the track — transforming what was previously a single passing zone into two overtaking opportunities.

“This adjustment takes full advantage of a spectacular natural valley, featuring 10 metres of elevation change that will make this section one of the most exiting parts of the circuit for drivers.”

There has been massive interest in the new circuit since it was announced earlier this year and a further surge last month when the Western Bay of Plenty Council gave its support to the circuit plans.

Both Tauranga and Rotorua are likely to see major economic benefits from events and activity at the new circuit, which should be ready for action in 2027. It will be accessible to a wide range of motorsport disciplines
